“What brings you here today?”
These five simple words mark the start of your therapy experience. You may not know what changes you need to make, how to make them or where to begin. But chances are, some part of your life is not working anymore. Do any of these scenarios resonate with you?
You are successful in your career, but your lack of a work/life balance has become unsustainable
You’re tired of being single, but loathe the current dating scene
You feel like the universe keeps throwing the same painful lessons at you
You are struggling with a major life transition
You’re concerned something unresolved from your childhood is showing up in your life
You are having trouble feeling connected - to other people, to your purpose, to your own sense of self
You wish you knew how to stop being so hard on yourself
You are tired of resenting your partner and having the same arguments
You are a new or expecting parent, exhausted and anxious
You are sick of others taking advantage of you
You just know there is more to life than how you are feeling right now
For the past 12 years, I’ve worked with ambitious young adult professionals in New York City who have strong inner critics, struggle with people-pleasing and boundaries, or existential anxiety about the “right” relationship or “right” career path. Many of them have grown up in emotionally immature, alcoholic, or otherwise dysfunctional homes, resulting in depression, anxiety, reactivity, and low self-esteem. They are curious about their family dynamics, wondering if certain childhood events have caused more harm than they realized.
If you relate to this, you have come to the right place. I am a relational psychotherapist who is also trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. This means:
I will always prioritize the integrity of our relationship, first and foremost. If we can’t work on it in here, how are you supposed to work on it out there?
I can offer skills to help you manage your emotions, build healthier patterns and strengthen your relationships.
I believe talking about your family-of-origin is important, but I’m not Freud; we don’t have to spend every session there.
I will help you become more accountable to your goals and values, and check in regularly to make sure your actions are not in conflict with the person you want to be - your truest, most authentic self.
I am also the author of Adult Children of Alcoholics: An Evidence-Based Workbook to Heal Your Past. You can also find me over on Substack, musing about my life as a toddler mom and how I (try to) practice what I preach.
You might be in a tough season of your life, but therapy can help you withstand the elements. Together, we will make sure your spirit is stronger than ever at the end of this storm.
